Leadership

Meet our leaders and advisors

MESSAGE FROM OUR ACADEMIC PRESIDENT

Millions of workers worldwide are considered “underemployed.” They have jobs that are not in line with their ambitions, training, experience, or education; they are working part-time when they would instead be working full-time, or they are not working at all. The underemployed are underpaid due to either the job’s mismatch with their skills, a skills gap issue, or both.

Our Academy exists to transform the lives of the underemployed to the wholly employed; from no-time, part-time, unsatisfactory employment to right-time, fulfilling full-time employment; from employment that does not match one’s ambitions, training, experience, or education, to productive, personally enjoyable and rewarding employment.

We help self-starters enhance their skill sets to match their competitive markets’ ambitions by closing their skills gaps. BeTech works with motivated people looking to enter careers, switch careers, or gain greater career depth.

BeTech offers world-class, integrated learn-by-doing experiences highlighting complex problem scenarios in practical contexts. These learning opportunities simulate real-world employment situations through experiential learning. Dr. Lynn Carter

Dean & SQA Division Chief

Dr. Lynn Carter joined BeTech Academy as Associate Dean and Head of Technology Department after nearly 50 years of combined experience.

The first 17 years as a professional realtime control system software and embedded software tools developer and researcher, followed by 23 years as a researcher, teaching professor, and curriculum developer at Carnegie Mellon University.  He then served as a professor, curricula developer, and faculty developer, supporting several universities in the United States, India, and other countries for another nine years.  He was an active IFIP Working Group 2.4 (Software Implementation Technology) member and officer and then as a Commissioner and an Executive Committee member supporting ABET’s Computing Accreditation Commission.

Over these nearly five decades, Dr. Carter observed a growing gap between what university graduates can do after they finish their education and what businesses, industry, and society need them to do.  Dr. Carter was attracted to BeTech Academy by the opportunity to not only develop programs and teach in programs but also spearheaded experiential learning as head of the Department and specifically design and implement curricula to provide the knowledge and the professional skills, abilities, and behaviors required of professionals.  Far too many graduates have mastered attending lectures and taking tests.  Very few can produce high-quality work products expected of professionals leveraging those concepts.  There’s too much attention given to understanding technical issues and demonstrating that understanding by solving throw-away toy problems.  Most do not have nearly enough experience experimenting, practicing, and mastering those critical concepts through the processes, methods, and tools employers will need their new professionals to know.
